The government has, for the first time, released data on infections following vaccination.
Balram Bhargava, Director General, Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), said that two to four per 10,000 breakthrough infections of COVID-19 have been seen after people received a vaccine. This translates to a very small number and is nothing to panic about. According to the data, only 0.04% of those who received the first dose of Covaxin contracted COVID. A similar percentage of people was infected after the second dose of Covaxin. In case of Covishield, only 0.02% of those who received the first dose of the vaccine tested positive for COVID-19, while 0.03% came out to be positive after the second dose of Covishield.
